Richard is not a bad boy. It is unfair to blame him for doing something when he simply doesn't know any better. It's common knowledge that it is a parent's responsibility to teach their children not to play with fire because it's dangerous. Richard obviously is growing up in an unsuitable environment.
Richard shouldn't be punished for his parent's ignorance. Having your parent's tell you what is right and what is wrong is part of growing up. Not having this education has caused Richard to act in such an irresponsible way. Not to mention the fact that he's only 4-years-old. It's clear that Richard missed out on the important little tid bit of information telling us to STAY AWAY FROM FIRE!.

Both you and John had almost similiar ideas. I feel that he is a bad boy, since he does bad things. On the other hand, I do agree that you can't blame him for doing crimes he didn't know were crimes.
